Daisy's Ricefish (Oryzias woworae) opportunistic breeding

Postby Sumit K Sen » Tue Oct 27, 2015 5:04 am

Hi Folks,
I have a few Daisy's Ricefish and they are regular egg layers. Females lay eggs everyday and I managed to recover a few fry from the tank on a daily basis and raised them the old fashioned way. Lots of water (20+ gallons), lots of floating leaf junk, plants and algae. I stopped after I had picked up 20 odd fry because I felt that more would stress the natural food supply. I did feed them with liquidized food for a while but now most of the fry have migrated to micro pellets and algae wafer. So no brine shrimps or infusoria in bottles. Luckily I did not lose any that I picked up from the breeding tank.
Enclosing an image of the 1st fry that was found in the tank. It is 6 weeks old today and released back to the tank it was born in :)
Cheers!
Sumit

Quick update. 8 weeks and 3 days after birth, the first Daisy's Ricefish born in the mini tank was seen carrying eggs today. Adulthood in 2 months is awesome! :)
Will post an image soon.
Cheers!

To feel like a grandad in a few weeks has to be special :) Unfortunately these eggs will not hatch into anything as they will remain unfertilized till I shift this female to the tank with males in it.

My discuss is laying eggs today. I have the photo and video, will try to upload tonight. Don't know if they will be hatched or not.
