New Born Cichlid care

Postby dawnroy27 » Thu Jul 02, 2015 8:32 am

Dear Seniors & Friends,

Today morning i got an addition of several New born Cichlids in my fish tank, however I would like to know the steps to make them survive & grow.

1) How to keep, small tub is ok or need a new tank for them
2) What and how to feed
3) Oxygen required in their tank or not
4) Any other suggestion/comment

Request suggestions, help from all dear members urgently, (the only thing I have done is separate them from the main tank into a new tub)

Thanks in Advance :-bd
Warm Regards

Congratulations on your new born babies, you must be very excited.

i)It is always better to keep them in separate tank, with everything air/filter/heater. They need about 4 months before you can add in main tank.
ii)But if you are setting up new tank now may result in bad decision, as water condition must be similar to main tank.
iii)Everyone recommends keeping bare bottom tank for fries, but I have raised them inside tank with decorations. They can hide inside decorations.
iv)Initially for 3-4 days they wont be eating anything(nothing is required to feed if egg sack is still there).
v) I have fed them powdered tetra bits without any problem, almost all survived on many occasions. Some commercial food is also available and u can prepare special food for them also.

All above is my own experience and I am not an expert.
