My 7 Stone iwagumi layout

Postby tirujit » Sat Sep 06, 2014 7:53 am

Hello everyone,

So after lots of research and study I finally got some success in iwagumi carpet. The tank and all the details are given below
Tank: 36" (L) X 15" (B) X 15" (H) – got it from Buro da.
Substrate: ADA power sand special 1 x 2l at bottom , ADA Amazonia soil 2 * 9l bags on top of power sand and ADA Amazonia soil powder 1 * 3l at top for carpet planting.
Hardscape: Seiryu Stone
Filter: Canister 2217 Ehiem
Chiller: Hailea 150A
CO2: Pressurized, ceramic diffuser
Light: 4 X 36 phillips pll
Fertilizer: ADA Brighty K(1ml per 20l daily) and ADA Step 1(1ml per 20l alternate day). I have also used glut on alternate day for controlling algae
Flora: Monte Carlo for carpet and Cyperus Helferi for background
Fauna: 30 Neon Tetra

Below are the pics taken on day 21 :ymblushing:

Setup is 21 days old and yes it will melt down a bit at first. But if u can give proper lighting all of them will eventually come back. From my personal exp I can say MC needs a lot light rather than CO2. I only used 1bps CO2 during photoperiod but a total amount of 36w * 4 = 144w of light for approx 100ltr tank. Though watt per gallon is an obsolete concept now. I used 4 pll lights, if u r using T5HO then less amount of wattage can do the trick

Tirujit- I have some questions like ...... are the plants from Fishylucy ? I have seen their ad saying ...tissue culture plants ....so i have a basic doubt ......using tissue culture plats and better ??? compared to normal ones ????
For this carpetting how much amount of plant did you use ????
I have as much authority as the Pope. I just don’t have as many people who believe it.

Joy, this was my 2nd attempt for carpet. First I have tired for hc cuba carpet which was in pot, but due to my several mistakes I got huge algae in my tank and everything was massacre for the 1st time. For the 2nd time I have tried with monte carlo which is tissue cultured and took every little precautions and here is the result you can see now. So I am not much sure about the quality difference between pot and tissue cultured plants. But I can definitely say tissue cultured plants are quite good. Yes I got these plants from fishy lucy and used 5 cup of monte carlo for this carpeting. For monte carlo you can cut off a grown stem and can replant it again. There was a journal about a guy who took a challenge of carpeting a 3 feet tank using only 1 cup of monte carlo by cutting and replanting stems and he was succeeded.

the tank would have looked much better with more plant variety.such as eleocharis sp,stauros or even downois.

Great setup.

I am no expert. If you are happy with the ratios of positioning, I am too.

However, two important things.

Are you resting your lights on your braces/tanas? That too, on empty plant pots. The tanas reduce the bend on the walls. Please don't put any additional load on them, unless you have done your math.

Second, your wavemaker/circulator ought to be on the same side as your filter outflow. That would give your tank a reasonable circular flow.

Would have loved to see downois around your stones to break the edges.
