Few of these Harlequins are from the first batch. Initially I was stupid enough and couldn't save my fishes but now since the mortality rate is lower these few have completed a year in my setup!!! :) :)

Re: Neverland: The Return to the Lost World (DIY co2 caps)

Postby aquarajan » Tue Jul 14, 2015 6:08 am

While people upgrade for the better my zeal for upgrading the same things to the perfection level never seem to end. So, to make the DIY CO2 setup leakproof had always revolved in my head and when a few DIY geniuses from KAC got involved in a new DIY co2 reactor in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5973&hilit=citric+acid), I couldn't resist myself.

So we got hold of these leakproof Co2 caps for less than $2. They got Internationally delivered in just 23days and I would personally thus recommend the e-commerce site. In addition to these I ordered a set of 3 aquarium maintenance tools (1 curved scissor + 1 straight tweezer + 1 curved tweezer) for less than $10 which are generally sold for Rs.500 each here!!!

Coming back to the caps, I couldn't wait to upgrade my drilled and m-seal coated silicon tubing reactor with these and PU pipes that I had already got hold of from the local market. The only motive was to waste my time for an attempt to make an almost leakproof set up to a complete leakproof one.

They came in the shittiest of packaging I have ever seen but looked good and effective once out of the cocoon. The design is good and quite strong plastic in terms of a Chinese product.

The most important thing that I was worried about for these 23 days and relieved me was because they fit perfectly on heads of any commercial soda/cola bottle heads. Thank the designers of global soda bottle makers for atleast keeping one thing in this world universal!!!

And after sealing one reactor end hole pipe by shoving in m-seal and attaching all tubings, here's how the system looks like. Quite happy with the looks and usability actually. The PU pipes are a bit hard and not as soft as the silicon pipes but they are less corrosive to constant exposure to gas.

It is running perfectly fine for the last 12 hrs or more. The bottle is generating enough pressure to generate bubbles at 2bps and is eyes-shut leak proof and I am quite satisfied with the grabs!!!

Thanks Rahul. These caps will help beginners resist one of the cons of a DIY setup which are leakages and hence the share.

These little buggers also come cheaper once bulk ordered. So a group buy like ours will also help new hobbists as well as adamant ones like us who are hellbent on giving up on DIY CO2!!! ;)
Cheers,
Rajan Bhaumik

There have been lot of alterations to the tank and unfortunately I have been so busy with work these few months that I chose over spending time with the tank over posting pics or updates. But will be updating you whenever I get some time off.
Cheers,
Rajan Bhaumik
