Entering into the Betta World...The Betta Pics

Postby SanamMarik » Sun Jul 20, 2014 1:19 pm

Hello All,

I am planning to make a Betta tank with four chambers.
Planned Tank size-
Total length-40"
Breadth-10"
Height-10"(9" available, 1" for substrate)

Each Chamber-10"x10"x10". black background and no visibility to the other chambers will be there except occasionally.
Decoration Plans- All the chambers will be made low-tech planted with low-demanding plants, rocks and drifts(not at the beginning).
Substrate in mind-Laterite, topped with sand.
Lights- yet to decide-Either will use a single(or two if reqd) PL tube(s) or else will buy 4 led lamps(very bright but is a bit costly-each lamp 7watts costs 350 :( )
Plants-Riccia, Amazon sword, tripartita, Anubias(not sure abt Anubias), moss
Might add drifts at a later time.
Filtration-Will add DIY ones if reqd.

My questions are-
1) Is a 10" cube okay for a Betta???
2) Is there any other options for the substrate selection?
3) Which light option is better, PL or LED?
4) Any other small/carpeting low demanding plant for Betta?? Please suggest.

Any other suggestions are very welcome, please educate me.

Thank you all... :)

Tank Specs Updated-July 21,2014.

8" cube will hold very little water, something around 8 ltrs, ie 2 gallons approx., which don't you think to be too small ?, what will be filtration if you plan to use substrate ? go for pLL for plants, LED is not so much tested for plants, but PLL generates lots of heat, IMO make atleast 1 ft cube, if space permits, just my opinion.

Might make it 10" cube.
Read some articles, 2 to 5 gallons was on avg what i found after what Suv da suggested. So going for 10". Hoping this will be fine with little more than 4gallon chamber each. What do you say @suvrajit da?

Tank size- is changed to 10" cube. (little more than 4gallon each)
Filtration- will use individual HOBs-The smallest one available.
Lights-PLL will produce too much light for the tank size and may cause algal probs, hence, will be getting T8.

Help me with your suggestions. :)

One question though-Why is a filter mandatory when a substrate is provided? @suvrajit da...

yes 10" cube is fine but try 12 ", it will give you some breathing space, say sometimes you may have missed WC s, try to go substrate less, because debris will accumulate in the bottom, try hitachi neon tubes, lights comperatively lower but will enhance your beta's colour, all the very best bro

Dont have space in the room for 4' base. Already 5tanks nd comp in room. This is going to be the 6th and last addition to the room for now. In future if i manage to save base area, i will get bigger one. :)
Thanks for sharing the facts. :)
