Hardscape Suggestions

Postby anupam mukherjee » Fri Oct 09, 2015 3:45 pm

Tank : 3feet x 1.5 feet x 1.5 feet (50 gallon)
Substrate : Barebottom
Filter : 1 sponge filter, 1 800lph ipf, 1 1000lph top filter with sponge and ceramic rjngs as filter media
Fauna : 2 Tiger oscars (9"+) & 1 Green Texas (4"+)
Light : Philips 20w 2feet tube (6500k)

Planning to add river sand as substrate and a couple of branchy drifts with led light fixture. Would it be ok for the fishes ? Would I have to remove the sponge filter if I use river sand as substrate ? Can I add a couple of anubias nana (can they survive without co2 dosage and fetrs, just with photoperiod ?)

Also planning to get a new alternate coloured(mix of yellow, blue & white) led fixture for the tank.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks & Regards,
Anupam

Branchy drifts does not go very well with Oscars,
they are big fishes, and can get injured by the drifts,
you can go with flattish Bogs instead, lookwise also matches
Secondly, no issues regarding compatibility of sand and Sponge filters
You can add a black vinyl background, goes well with Oscars and enhances & compliments their colours,
Use coarser sand and do not add plants as such big beasts will tear them off
and use warm yellow spots in certain spots to enhance the light & shadow effect, which enhances the beauty of a Oscar tank,
Will look forward for the FTS after remake

Got the coarse sand from a local dealer. Would be collecting the "Warm White" LED modules by end of this week. Now the only wait is for getting some descent quality bogs.

Till then a couple of new members in my tank. A 8" Green Texas and a Jack Depsey &a Cuban Cichlid. Here goes some image..

Add black sand. Thats it. Give them max space to swim. No hardscape required.
