Caridina cf. babaulti complex and RCS in same tank?

Caridina cf. babaulti complex and RCS in same tank?

Postby mr_feynman » Tue Nov 03, 2015 8:05 pm

I have Caridina cf. babaulti complex aka Indian rainbow shrimp aka green shrimp.
And I am going to have RCS which is neocaridina in the same tank.

Some Internet sources says, as RCS and rainbow shrimp each is different -- caridina and neocaridina respectively, they will not interbreed.
http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/88-shrimp-other-invertebrates/50233-would-caridina-cf-babaulti-interbreed-crs-rcs.html

Experts please confirm on this.

Also, please suggest any other colorful species like fire red etc which can be kept in same set up without interbreeding.

babaulti will not interbreed with RCS.
but fire red which is a superior strain of RCS will interbreed within themselves and with other neocardinias.just keep only one variety of neocards.

Thanks folk for the recommendations :)

Now coming to the fire red scenario. It is actually screwed up back in India.
What we used to call as red cherry are now a days sold as sakura, what we used to call sakura are now sold as fire red and the red cherry what is now a days getting sold as is more pale than a jaundice patient!! The low price thing has made a mess of everything.

Now coming to fire red - even if you get good genuine quality fire red those will be costly and if you are really interested in maintaining a proper line you need to cull the not so red babies.

I have a colony but wont be able to share anything till coming 6 months as I am not happy with them as of now!

A sample image of them -
